My Book is Out – Adobe AIR 1.5 Cookbook Released

In addition to AIR 1.5 being released today, the Adobe AIR 1.5 Cookbook is also being released. This book will be an essential resource for anyone doing AIR development – as it also includes the new AIR 1.5 features. This book is an excellent resource for beginners and advanced AIR developers alike. If you have never touched AIR, this book can certainly get you started. In addition, we cover all development angles on this: Flash, Flex, and HTML / JavaScript.

Several great developers put a lot of hard work into this one. It was an honor to get to lead up a team that included Marco Casario, Koen De Weggheleire, and Rich Tretola.

If you are really interested in AIR 1.5 – this book will help you out. It covers such topics as working with the encrypted local database, pixel bender filters, some of the new Flash Player 10 features – as well as how to target AIR 1.5 in your application. In addition, the book does a great job covering all of the other AIR API’s such as:

  • The embedded SQLite database
  • File system support
  • Network monitoring support
  • Adobe AIR Update Framework (that is included in the AIR 1.5 SDK)
  • HTML Support
  • and much more…

The book is available at Max this week, and it will be available in bookstores very soon. You can pre-order your copy from Amazon today:

Any chance of an ebook version??

  2. Hi David,

I take it at MAX in SF, I take a look and… WOW pretty cool and very useful, I hope to see you next time.
    Ciao

@Beggi – If the book is not available at http://safari.oreilly.com/ – it should be soon.

Bahhhhhh why are paying customers always punished and pirates have the easy life? O’Reilly’s Safari is crap. I just want to pay my 30-40$ and get a unrestricted PDF copy of the book. I don’t want to subscribe to monthly 10 bookshelf subscription or whatever and jump through hoops to be able to read it offline on my iLiad reader and offline. It makes me really frustrated and means i will not buy this book since i have no interest in the print version. I’m sure it’s good though, which makes me more frustrated. I think if anyone has a chance to sell these kinds of ebooks, it’s programmers.

@Beggi – O’Reilly also gives you the ability to purchase an electronic copy from here: http://oreilly.com/catalog/9780596522506/ . Hopefully this is what you need.

  6. Beggi says:

Oh brilliant, that’s just what I was looking for – sorry for my rant earlier! I was really annoyed by O’Reillys unintuitive interface and I still don’t understand why people marketing books for programmers don’t put more effort into selling a ebook version.

When I’m reading a book about programming I like to have to read it in my laptop and code on the side. I can imagine more people doing it the same way, or am I crazy here? Do everybody still want a printed copy?

  7. Beggi says:

Oh and I’m reading the book now, it’s a very nice read! :)

  8. Fritz Dimmel says:

Already ordered the book at Amazon.com!
I’m really looking forward reading it!

    Bye!
