@Aaron - I have actually done both! I really want to see it work, but sadly I had to already send back my iPhone (they only give you 14 days to try it out). I am back with Verizon - and while I don't like my phone that much, the call quality is near perfect. Anyway, I complained to both AT&T and Apple. Hopefully they will resolve the situation - and maybe in two years I can have an iPhone (probably version 3 by then, lol).

May I offer an opposite suggestion? Lobby Apple to have AT&T improve service in your area! With four more years left on their exclusive agreement, both parties lose if YOU (the customer) don't get the promised "more bars in more locations" marketing stance that AT&T is pushing?

I enjoyed my CDMA-based service with Verizon. It was stellar. However, I don't regret switching to the iPhone. AT&T has improved service in my city, especially near my home. Yet AT&T still needs to step up its service availability, especially with Apple prepping a new 3G version of the iPhone for summer release. As I suggested, talk to Apple! Get your other iPhone-lusting friends to do so as well.

Enjoy!

Man Dave - that stinks! I switched from T-Mobile to AT&T in Denver, CO and I pretty much have the exact same level of service. The iPhone is so sweet - 8 months later and I still use it to the fullest potential. I hope something changes for you and your wife, I'd hate to hear that you can't have an iPhone :(

I've had that feeling ever since the iPhone was announced as an AT&T only product, and have resisted the temptation to switch. Also, I was under the impression that unlocked iPhones would work on T-Mobile and whoever else has the same format as AT&T's network, but that they wouldn't work on Verizon.

Anyway. Full sympathies from another who feels stuck on bad Verizon phones because of the good network. All carriers are awful; it's just a matter of how awful they are and in what areas.

i had opposite problem..
I couldn't get verizon at home office and 6 years later they admit my neighborhood is in a dead zone because of a hill between the tower and house.

Havent had that issue with att and have actually gotten better coverage here in CO then i did with verizon. And haven't had a bad customer service experience yet either.
